A little over a year ago my friend Cyndy and I had an idea….wouldn’t it be great to have the Pride flag fly in Medway during Pride month. The idea was planted and the two of us started on the endeavor to make our idea a reality. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy but we were committed. We collaborated with our Town Officials who all took time to sit with us, listen, discuss, ask questions, and learn – and for that we are so grateful. Our collaboration resulted in not one Pride flag flying in Medway but eight! The Pride flag is not just a celebration of identity but also an indication of allyship, safe spaces, unity amid divisiveness, community, and togetherness. When the LGBTQ+ community sees these flags flying they will know that they are seen, safe, celebrated, and loved here in our community and as proud moms of LGBTQ+ children, it means so much to both of us and our families. I am overwhelmed by all of the messages of love and support from yesterday, hearing from so many people who thanked us for doing what we did because seeing those flags fly will make a difference for them and their families was the icing on the cake. Happy Pride to all!
