Medway Marches Beliefs

The mission of Medway Marches is to create a more inclusive community for people of color by raising antiracist children, collectively evolving into more inclusive adults, and transforming communities through institutional reforms. To that end, we’re steadfast in our commitment to the following:
BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Voices
  • We listen to and amplify BIPOC voices.
  • We believe that proximity builds empathy and encourage each other to seek out various BIPOC perspectives via media as well as through meaningful relationships.
  • We include BIPOC voices in all places where decisions are being made.
Systemic Racism
  • We affirm that systemic racism is real and continues to hurt BIPOC communities.
  • We recognize that the onus of dismantling systemic racism falls upon all of us.
Protest
  • We proudly support the use of our 1st Amendment right to peacefully assemble and petition for meaningful change in our communities.
  • We condemn the association of protestors with rioters and looters; these are three distinctly separate acts that are carried out by distinctly separate groups.
Police Reform
  • We support the Medway Police Department and equitable law enforcement everywhere.
  • We believe that reform is necessary to ensure the health, safety, and dignity of all people.
  • We realize that effective police reform may include shifting certain responsibilities to more appropriately trained professionals.
Education
  • We commit to engaging in difficult conversations.
  • We acknowledge that race plays a substantial factor in the human experience and refuse to hide from it.
  • We invite each other to be honest and vulnerable about the ways in which privilege and systemic racism impacts our lives.
  • We implore our schools to build age-appropriate antiracist training into all aspects of the curriculum.
